Police Quiz Indian Captain, Others Over Ship Accident
An Indian citizen, Captain Derek Dsila and his Nigerian counterpart, Dickson Otubike, were among individuals being interrogated by the detectives of the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of the Rivers State Police Command over their roles in the recent ship accident that occurred at Abonnema Wharf in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area last Saturday that led to the damage of a police jetty and gun boats.
According to the report, the accident occurred at about 1720hrs when a tanker ship named Abula navigated dangerously at Abonnema Wharf and hit Nigeria Marine Police jetty which resulted in the damaging of three police gun boats, two of which were fitted with one MG as well as sinking of one PGMG.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ben Ugwuegbulam in a press release said two boats belonging to the inland waterways authority on safe keeping and three exhibit boats were all damaged and sank into the river as a result of the impact of the accident.
The police spokes person further said that the OC Marine Police led a team of the marine police that arrested all the occupants of the ship when they attempted to escape, assuring that the police authorities in the state would get to the root of the matter.
