Police Kill Six Robbery Suspects In PH
A six-man notorious armed robbery gang that has been terrorising Port Harcourt and its environs was Monday exterminated by the police in a shoot-out.
The state deputy Commissioner of Police, Mrs Diseye Nsirim disclosed this while briefing journalists on the development at the police headquarters, Port Harcourt.
Mrs Nsirim stated that the robbers met their death during a gun battle with a combined police patrol team and members of the Joint Task Force (JTF) which lasted for over twenty minutes during a robbery operation along Olu Obasanjo R
oad, Port Harcourt following a distress call.
According to her, the robbers shortly after noon on the fateful day robbed one Ndubuisi Iheanachor of the sum of N2.1 million on his way back from Access Bank along Olu Obasanjo axis.
“Today, March 5, 2012 at about 12:25 hrs, one Ndubuisi Iheanachor with a Ford Ranger black Jeep went to Access Bank Olu Obasanjo and withdrew the sum of N2.1million. On his way back to his office along Orogbum Crescent, he was overtaken by a gang of vicious armed robbers driving in a white Hilux car who robbed him of all the money, “ she stated.
The deputy commissioner of police further disclosed that the police recovered two AK 47 riffles, three magazines, 10 rounds of 3.8 special ammunitions, two vehicle plate numbers, N500,000, and the two vehicles.
She stated that the owners of the stolen vehicles had been identified, adding that there was no police casualty and the Joint Task Force (JTF).
The police boss described the operation as successful and urged the public to be security conscious and alert the police when in distress, adding that the state police command and other security operatives in the state are poised to protect lives and properties in the state.
Meanwhile, an eye witness account who spoke to The Tide said the incident created a pandemonium along the ever busy Olu Obasajo Road.
