Why General Hospitals Can’t Deliver – Parkera
Rivers State Health
Commissioner, Dr. Sampson Tamunoiyoriari Parker, says poor work attitude of workers is responsible for the inability of some General Hospitals to deliver in the secondary health care system.
Dr Parker stated this recently while playing host to the Association of Heads of Government Hospitals in his office in Port Harcourt.
He said, the Ministry whose primary function was to regulate health care delivery in the State also handles the accreditation of public and private hospitals.
The Commissioner frowned at a situation whereby doctors absent themselves from duties without reasonable excuse and reminded them that the medical profession was a calling and not a job, urging them to be available 24 hours daily to give medicare to the people.
Dr Parker disclosed that effort is on to rationalise and redistribute manpower to give quality care to the people by collapsing the existing 42 general hospitals to 6 zonal hospitals that would be upgraded and fully equipped with the right calibre of staff to function optimally.
Earlier, the Chairman, Association of Heads of Government Hospitals, Dr. Emeka Ogbugo informed the Commissioner that they were in his office to identify with the State Government for the giant strides in the health sector and thanked the Governor for the cars provided for all medical doctors in the State Service.
