NAWOJ Rivers To Celebrate Indegenous Women
Top on the agenda of the executive council of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ), Rivers State Chapter, is the identification and celebration of indigenous women of the State, who have distinguished themselves in their chosen careers.
Outlining in their order of priority, the focus of her administration in the year 2012, the Chairman of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ), Rivers Chapter, Ms Enale Ndubere Kodu, in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt Sunday, immediately after a thanksgiving outing organised by the body, said her administration would use the opportunity at its disposal to look inward, with a view to fishing out outstanding Rivers Women who have made their marks in the society so they could be show-cased and celebrated.
Ms Kodu who explained that the essence of the exercise is to encourage other women and make them know that they too can achieve heir desired dream if they put in their best, earmarked areas of focus as education, entertainment, community development, partnership as well as professionals.
She therefore charged the members of her association to use their position to get news and facts about women in the state who have stood tall among their equals so that they could be adequately recongnised and honoured.
In another development, Ms kodu has called on the women of the State to rise up to their responsibility as mothers to check the excesses of their children.
Speaking on the rising prevalence of vices in the country, Ms Enale said women should give attention to the activities and behaviours of their children so they could decode when there is a deviation in character so as to be nipped in the bud before it gets over blown.
“The women gave birth to the society so they have a lot to do to curb societal ills”, she said.
