NURTW Tasks Drivers On Safety, Traffic Rules
The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mile three, Nkpolu Oroworukwo Motor Park branch, has called on members of the union to always keep to safety and traffic laws, so as to avoid some unpleasant consequences on the road.
Making the call in his speech at the New year get together ceremony organised by the Ibaa, Obelle, Ndele Rumuji and Ubima units of the branch, the General Secretary of the Mile three branch of NURTW, Comrade Cyril Amadi said that the call became necessary in view of some series of reports of negligence of safety rules and traffic laws by drivers on the road.
Comrade Amadi, who is also the chairman of the Ibaa, Obelle, Rumuji and Ubima unit further urged drivers to always project themselves well, especially in the area of dressing, so that they could earn respect on their business.
He also appealed to members of the union to always update their vehicles particulars both at the State and local government levels to avoid embarrassment from enforcements agents.
The NURTW branch Secretary however maintained that the union would do its best to protect the interest of drivers at any level, and urged them to always obey the union’s regulations.
Comrade Amadi explained that the essence of the ceremony was to thank God for his goodness and protection especially the drivers of the unit over the years, as well as commit the new year to God, and thanked drivers for making out time on daily basis to pray for members and their business.
Earlier in his speech, the chairman of the occasion, Chief Boniface Nmezi who is also an executive of the union, commended drivers for always cooperating with their leader, Comrade Cyril since he took over the chairmanship of the unit, adding that there had not be report of any disaster.
Highlight of the occasion was the award given to some deserving drivers and members of the union for their contributions and progress made in the unit. The awareness include the chairman, Comrade Cyril and the Chief driver, Mr. Oduchi.
