Amaechi Swears-In 15 Special Advisers
The Rivers State Executive Council has now swollen to 27 Commissioners following the swearing-in of two additional Commissioners on Wednesday by Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
Rt. Hon. Amaechi also swore-in about 15 special advisers as he enjoined them to use their positions in improving the lots of the citizenry.
Tasking them on the responsibilities required of them, he said, “people are looking at us and expect a higher standard than we are offering now”.
Some of the special advisers consist of majority of old ones and some new ones and include NEPAD Coordinator in the state, Dr Tex Wariboko.
Others are former Special Adviser on Aquaculture and Deep Sea Fishing, Hon Kuro Briggs, Okey Okirie, Sam, Etetegwung, Chief Nwankwo Nwankwo, Alakuye Cottrell and Mrs Chituru Amadi.
Former Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Boma Iyaye, Dr Godknows Tarn-George, Mr Nnamdi Okere, Solomon Ubeku, Mr Goodlife Nmekini and Abiye Amachree also made the list.
Speaking to newsmen briefly after the ceremony, former Special Adviser on Rural Development, Mr Austin Nwakoh said they would strive to ensure that the objective of the Amaechi led administration was achieved.
Mr Nwakoh promised to pursue Governor Amaechi’s development agenda in the rural areas, saying “the way forward is for us to support the governor to complete the programmes he started during his first tenure”.
The same view was expressed by Acting Mayor of Port Harcourt, Hon Nancy Stephens, who promised to drive the vision of making the city safe, secure and with improved sanitation.
Meanwhile, the State Governor has sworn-in a new Chief of Staff for Government House, in the person of Mr Tony Okocha.
Mr Okocha’s appointment comes more than seven months after his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike, now a Federal Minister of State for Education.
