Private Schools Resume In Bayelsa
Some private schools in Bayelsa resumed on Monday after the Federal Government announced a reduction in the pump price of petrol from N141 to N97 per litre.
However, civil servants and bank workers have yet to resume as labour leaders still insist on the nationwide strike, which began on Monday, January 9.
Our correspondent reports that in Yenagoa, schools, such as Rhema Heritage, Cedar Court British School, Gateway International School and St. Francis School, all on Imbgi Road in Amarata area of the city, have resumed.
Similarly, some schools in Sagbama, Kolokuma/Opokuma and Ogbia local government areas have resumed.
However, the Bayelsa State Secretariat is locked as civil servants failed to report for work and some told newsmen on telephone that they had not received directives from labour leaders to resume.
The Chairman of NLC in the state, Mrs. Ebiondu Koku-Obiyai, told newsmen on telephone that she was in a meeting and requested that she be called later.
Markets in the state, including the Ultra Modern Swali Market, remained open, while transporters carried out their businesses.
While commercial banks have yet to open for business, many Automated Teller Machines are not working but many people lined up in front of the machines in the hope that they may work to enable them to withdraw money
The roads and streets in Yenagoa, have, however, remained quiet as few people were at the bus stops.
