12 Footballers Die In Auto Crash
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Bauchi, has confirmed the death of 12 footballers in a road accident along Zubo-Azare road in Katagum
area of the state.
The Sector Commander, Mr Mamman Zakariya, told newsmen in Bauchi on Wednesday that 10 other people were injured in the incident, which occurred on New Year eve.
He said that the players were returning home to Shira after a football match at Zaki, when the bus they were in had a head-on-collusion with a car and burst into flames.
Zakariya said that eight of the 18 footballers in the bus died on the spot, while the four occupants of a Honda Accord car also died instantly.
The commandant stated that the accident, which occurred at about 6.30 pm, involved a Toyota bus registered AE 108 FTA and a Honda Accord car registered AE 499 DKU.
He attributed the accident to reckless driving and urged motorists in the state to always obey traffic rules.
The deceased, who were mostly burnt to ashes were given mass burial, while those injured were taken to Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Azare, for treatment.
