Schalke Eager To Integrate Ogbuke In Team
Super Eagles forward, Chinedu Obasi Ogbuke, has been handed the No. 19 shirt by Schalke 04 after joining on-loan from Bundesliga rival, Hoffenhiem in the ongoing winter transfer.
The Nigeria international, after his first session on Tuesday with his new teammates in Gelsenkirchen, was expected to have arrived Doha, Qatar yesterday after departing Germany on Wednesday.
Already, club boss, Huub Stevens, is eager to see the Nigeria international in action.
Speaking with the Schalke web, Stevens said: “I want Chinedu (Obasi) as quickly as possible in the team.” The head coach revealed while introducing him to the squad.
“I know that he has played in Hoffenheim at the top as a second striker. Later, he was no more being used. But with us, everything is possible -He can play outside, he can play center, he can be one of two attackers, he can be left, he can play right. It is positive for the whole team to have a player with such qualities, but he must be fit,” Stevens cautioned.
In similar vein, the club’s manager Horst Heldt advised Ogbuke to strive to know his new team-mate better in the coming days.
“Every player needs a certain settling time, no matter whether he comes from the Bundesliga or from another club,” said Heldt.
“Obasi, of course know the S04 from the league games, but I know from personal experience that it’s a big difference, to act with or against each other.
“Obasi has extraordinary footballing skills. This he must bring as everyone else, but he must also get used to the club. Hoffenheim is a well-run club, but Schalke is much bigger, it is a club with tradition and a great history.
“We will give Chinedu the necessary time to get used to it, and I’m sure he will bring his power of play to us.”
