Retired Banker Emerges Sokoto ANPP Guber Candidate
A retired banker, Alhaji Yusha’u Ahmed, on Wednesday emerged the candidate of ANPP for the gubernatorial election in Sokoto State, scheduled for March 10, 2012 .
Ahmed, who worked with Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, scored 469 votes to beat Alhaji Attahiru Yabo ,who polled 3 votes in the party’s primary election.
The Chairman of the Congress and Primary Election Committee, Hajiya Fatima Mohammed, commended the delegates for exhibiting a high sense of discipline and order during the exercise .
She said, “my work was really made easier and I must commend the two aspirants and the delegates for this spirit of sportsmanship.’’
In his speech, Ahmed said he had accepted the challenge to be the candidate of ANPP in the gubernatorial poll.
‘’ The task of wresting power from the ruling PDP is, however, not easy but we can successfully accomplish this with the support of the entire people of the state,’’ he added.
His opponent, Alhaji Attahiru Yabo , a former Water Resources Commissioner in the state, said ’’ I have accepted the result of the election as God gives and takes leadership .’’
Meanwhile , the state congress of the party elected a 27-member state executive committee to run the affairs of the party.
During the election, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma and Alhaji Attahiru Mohammed were elected as chairman and secretary, respectively.
