NCSU Hails Fubara For Approving N85,000 Minimum Wage

The Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), Rivers State Council, has poured encomiums on the State Governor, Sir SiminalayiFubara for approving N85,000 as the new minimum wage for civil servants in the State, describing the gesture as encouraging and heart-warming.
This is even as the union has put everything in place to hold its quadrennial state delegates conference tomorrow, to elect officers to pilot its affairs in the next four years.
To this end, national officers of the union, including the National President, Comrade Oluwole Sunday; the National General Secretary; and the Principal Secretary of the Abuja Council, Comrade Dan Atakpo; among others have already stormed Rivers State for the event.
The Rivers State Chairman of NCSU, Comrade Chukwuka Richman Osumah, who gave the indication in an interview in Port Harcourt, said civil servants in the State are really elated and delighted over the N85,000 minimum wage approved for them by Governor Fubara, describing it as the first of its kind in the history of the State.
He pointed out that the workers have never had it so good, as the Fubara administration has demonstrated in no unmistakable terms that it is determined to put smiles on their faces.
He also noted that with the gesture, Governor Fubara is steadily proving that he has the interest of the workers at heart, and that the State Civil Service is truly his primary constituency.
When implemented, Osumah said the new minimum wage would go a long way in adding value in the lives of the civil servants and those of their families and dependants, as well as motivate the workers to increase their productivity and service to the State.
The labour leader, therefore, hinted that the civil servants would on Monday hold a special rally in honour of Governor Fubara at the State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt, where they would gather, toeulogise the Governor and present special renditions in his honour.
According to him, the civil servants would do this not only to express their appreciation to the Governor , but also to let him know that they are fully Simplified and solidly behind him.
Within so short a time, Osumah said Governor Fubara has shown that he cares for the general wellbeing of the civil servants, and to buttress his points, he listed the N100,000 Christmas bonus; the ongoing construction of 20,000 housing units for civil servants; and the increase of the fund earmarked for payment of gratuities to retirees , from N500,000 to N2billion; among others.
The labour leader reiterated that saying that civil servants in the State have never had it so good is to state the obvious, and thanked the Governor for his commitment and determination to wipe away the tears of the workers.
Commenting on the union’s state delegates conference, Osumah said everything has been put in place for a hitch-free ceremony tomorrow, contending that the national officers of the union, who had already arrived Port Harcourt, would in company of other officials pay a courtesy visit to the Head of Service, Dr George Nwaeke, before the kickoff of the event.
He also announced that there would be a pre-conference at the union secretariat along Ikwerre Road, Port Harcourt today, before the main event.
According to him, the delegates conference would hold at the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) Secretariat in Port Harcourt.
