Hunger Protests: Commissioner Chides Okocha Over Attack On Fubara
The Rivers State Commissioner of Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, has taken a swipe at the factional leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Chief Tony Okocha, for labelling the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as ‘sponsor’ of the #End Bad Governance Protest in the state.
Recall that Okocha had in an interview with newsmen said the Governor sponsored the protest in the State for the purpose of truncating democracy under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, after the APC secretariat in Port Harcourt was recently attacked by the protesters.
Johnson described Okocha’s allegation as baseless and irresponsible of an “ingrate who got power by false arrangement and grace of PDP’ s magnanimity which he now vilifies”.
The Commissioner had during the commissioning of the Pressure Swing Absorption Oxygen Plant project built by UNICEF at the General Hospital, Ogale, Eleme LGA, by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, urged Rivers people and Nigerians to disregard such an allegation against the Governor “by a man, whose leadership as APC Caretaker Chairman has no office or root, but out to play sycophancy in politics.
“No amount of falsehood by Okocha, whose leadership is one man’s show can obliterate this.
“Okocha, therefore, carries much burden of ill-feelings against a man who has come to liberate Rivers people from bad governance in the past eight years under his paymaster and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike”.
The Commissioner stressed that among the 36 States Governors, only Governor Fubara was able to address the protesters and quell the heat of the protest in the state.
He warned Okocha to desist from his unconstructive criticisms against the Governor ‘s administration that has direct -bearings on the people and look for something better to do for himself.
The Commissioner also admonished Rivers people to continue to support the present government under Governor Fubara, and that of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, appealing for more time for Mr. President and his team to be able to develop the people and the country by calling off the #End Bad Governance nationwide protests.
He, however, commended the people for exercising their grievances without any form of destructive tendencies, adding that the protest should be peaceful both in the state and Nigeria as a whole.
