MOSIEND Celebrates Annkio Briggs At 72
The Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND), a foremost Niger Delta organisation, has congratulated a renowned human rights activist and stateswoman, Annkio Briggs, who turned 72 years on Monday, July 29.
Speaking on her birthday celebration , National President of MOSIEND, Dr. Kennedy Tonjo West, in a statement, described Annkio as “a mother of dragons, a woman with a lion heart, and a defender of the rights of the Ijaw people and the entire Niger Delta”.
MOSIEND said the “Amazon, Briggs, is a blessing to the people of the Niger Delta and noted that the region couldn’t have achieved this much in terms of development without the contributions of the likes of Annkio.
“This priceless jewel of uncommon pedigree and inestimable value is rated amongst the 50 most influential women in Nigeria. Her advocacy for environmental justice, gender equality, women rights, equity, fairness from the Nigerian Government, minority rights and the relentless clamour for the development of the oil producing communities in the Niger Delta stands her out as a leading light globally, her global impact to humanity cannot be overemphasised.
“AnnKio Briggs is an achiever, a pace setter and a torch Bearer”.
Briggs is also the President of the Coalition of Niger Delta Women Leaders rated as the most vibrant and formidable women group in the region.
A statement said “Annkio seizes every opportunity to project the interest of the marginalized people of the oil-rich region, risking her life and going the extra miles at ensuring that the voice of the people is heard”.
MOSIEND encouraged her not to relent in her pursuit for a peaceful, united and developed Niger Delta region where the people are prosperous both economically and otherwise.
The statement further prayed God’s blessing, peace, good health, strength and wisdom upon her as she marks this auspicious occasion, wishing her many fruitful years on Earth.
