2012 Budget: Presidency Defends N921bn For Security
Political Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, has defended the allocation of N921.91 billion to security in the 2012 budget presented to the National Assembly by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Gulak told a news conference on Monday in Abuja that security was important because “our development will largely depend on peaceful existence in this country”.
He urged the National Assembly to consider the security of the country while deliberating on the budget since they were also aware of the security challenges in the country.
He said, “I am sure when they begin to consider the budget head by head, issue by issue, sector by sector, they will agree that security is on the front burner in this country. “It should be given the necessary logistics and fund it deserves in order to make Nigeria peaceful.”
“The foreign direct investment we expect will largely depend on the security within the country and as such government should tackle security issues headlong with all the resources at their disposal so that we have a peaceful country, we have development, we have direct foreign investment.”
Gulak said the budget was dedicated to job creation because emphasis would be placed on agriculture, which will translate into jobs for Nigerian youths.
“In the near future we will not be importing rice into this country, our teeming youths will be deployed to agricultural sector, everybody who is interested will have agriculture as a business and they will be adequately taken care of.”
He reiterated the president’s desire for free and fair election in Sokoto and Adamawa States, saying that “the president will not interfere in the primary election of any state within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)”.
According Gulak, the PDP will emerge winner in the election of both states because the party has enough personnel and structure to carry out the feat.
