Monarch Harps On Policy Implementation
The Traditional Ruler of Seimbiri Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta, Charles Ayemi-Botu, has charged to President Goodluck Jonathan to be decisive in ensuring compliance with policy implementation.
Ayemi-Botu told newsmen in Asaba on Tuesday that the president would “step on some toes” in order to achieve the objectives of his administration and urged him not to be deterred.
He said that unless Jonathan became firm and decisive in his actions and policies, he might begin to be seen and considered “as too soft to handle the affairs of the nation”.
The traditional ruler said that some politicians had in a bid to run the president down, recently alleged that about 80 per cent of the 2011 budgetary allocation was allocated to the Niger Delta Region.
He said that the allegations were concoctions of mischief makers, adding that the region had not benefited anything from the present administration.
The traditional ruler also accused some of Jonathan’s loyalist of running parallel governments, thereby constituting a clog in the wheel of governance and denying the president of useful information and advice.
He said that the sycophants around the Presidency had made it difficult for the government to be consistent with policies.
“It is on record that previous Heads of State in the country were given free hands to rule and I am therefore urging Nigerians to give the president same cooperation they accorded his predecessors,” Ayemi-Botu said.
He urged the president to ensure that Niger Delta as “the economic life-wire” of the country was not neglected further and denied infrastructure and human capital development.
The monarch also appealed to the president to include more women in his cabinet as women were more trusted than men, more consistent and more reliable.
He said that the 35 per cent women affirmative action was very achievable if the girl-child education was continuously encouraged, adding that women did not lose focus easily.
Ayemi-Botu lauded the enactment of the Freedom of Information Law, and said that it was the best thing to happen to the country.
“The journalists have always been known to be the mouth piece of the common man all over the world, the voice of the voiceless; the media have consistently aided national and economic advancement of nations,” he said.
