ACN Adopts Okara Guber Candidate
The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Bayelsa State, has adopted Mr Kemela Okara as its gubernatorial flag bearer for the 2012 governorship election in the State.
Okara, a Lagos-based lawyer, emerged through affirmative votes by delegates as the sole candidate at the primary election held last Wednesday in Yenagoa.
He said in his acceptance speech that an ACN-led government would provide responsive leadership for people of the state. “The people are in pains because there is no good education, health and infrastructure. For us in ACN, we are providing responsive leadership to the state in these various sectors to meet the yearnings of our people.”
Okara said the ACN governments in different states of the federation had been tested in delivering dividends of democracy to the people. He said that his party was not keen on wrestling power from the ruling party (PDP), but was out “to sell the tested manifesto of the party to the people who will vote in the election. “
“We are not planning to wrestle power from the PDP, wrestling means you are fighting. Rather we have presented a manifesto that will change the face of development in Bayelsa state,” he said.
Okara, who enjoined Bayelsans to rally support for the ACN for purposeful leadership, expressed hope that with a free, fair and credible election, the ACN was confident of victory, come February 2012. Our correspondent reports that the primary was witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
