Eaglets Look To Ghana For Inspiration
Golden Eaglets captain, Fortune Chukwudi and coach John Obuh are hoping that Ghana’s success at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup will rub off on Nigeria as they gun for a fourth title, on home soil.
“Surely, Ghana’s victory will be an inspiration to us,” he told newsmen. “This is an African time, it is our own season.
“Even coming to the big ones, I believe Africa will do well, and probably carry the day too.”
It is a view shared by Obuh.
“Ghana did very well, and it tells us that we have to look at what they have done and try to do the same thing too, especially as we are playing at home.”
Chukwudi, a strapping centre-half from A and B Academy in Port Harcourt dismissed fears that the culling of a large chunk of the squad following the results of the MRI bone test, would have an adverse effect on the team.
“No. Actually we have been together as a family for over a year and I am confident that with the training we have had, I dont think the dropped players will affect us in any way. I believe definitely we are okay.”
The Golden Eaglets have just returned from a two-week training camp at the Aspire Academy in Qatar, and Chukwudi says the experience was rewarding.
“We played some good games and it was a good challenge and we did our best. I believe it will give us confidence for the tournament.”
The Eaglets defeated Julius Berger 1-0 on Monday in their final tune-up game before heading off to Abuja yesterday.
