TotalEnergies To End Routine Flaring By 2030 … Achieves Zero Routine Flaring …. Targets Reduced Safety Flaring
The multinational oil giant, TotalEnergies, has said it looks forward to attaining the total stoppage of routine flaring by the year 2020.
This is even as the company has achieved a Zero Routine Gas Flaring on both its Joint Venture(JV) and Deepwater installations and operations across Nigeria.
By this, the company becomes the first among the International Oil Companies(IOCs) operating in the country to attain the feat and with the striving towards the reduction of Safety Flaring.
Speaking at the Media Parley to mark the milestone achievement at the Event Centre, TotalEnergies, PortHarcourt Centre, recently, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, TotalEnergies Company in Nigeria, Matthieu Bouyer, said that TotalEnergies, as a global company, was committed to producing more energy but at the same time reduce emissions pointing out that the company was the first Exploration and Production(EP) company in Nigeria to achieve the feat.
Routine Flare-out, the stoppage of continuous gas flaring above the normal safety capacity of an oil and gas facility was an achievement Bouyer described as not just a practical demonstration of TotalEnergies’ commitment to deliver less carbon- intensive energy to it’s customers but aligns with the Nigerian government’s objective to foster a low carbon economy.
According to him, the objective of the project was double-fold including reducing emissions and increasing energy production.
In his words “today is a very special day because it is the day when we officially announce that TotalEnergies has reached Zero Routine Flaring in all it’s operations across Nigeria.
“The objective of this project is double. First, is to reduce our emissions. As a company, our objective is to fully stop routine flaring in the company by 2030. The second objective is to increase energy production. By stopping routine flaring, we are able to valorize the gas, thereby creating value for the country”.
“In the past years, we had 300 to 350 kSm3/d of routine flaring. It has now reduced to zero. This project will save
-340 ktC02e per year, giving a cumulative saving of close to 5.5 MtCo2e until the end of life of the asset.
While highlighting other initiatives taken towards the reduction of emissions within its operations environment and the larger society, he said ” other initiatives revolve around Co2(carbon dioxide) and CH4(methane) emissions reduction in our operations through mobilization of best available technologies”.
The TotalEnergies Country Chair disclosed that all the company’s projects have a mandatory non-routine flaring design saying”the rule is that any new project should improve the emissions intensity of our operations”.
Bouyer further lauded the support and positive collaboration of the Federal Ministry of Environment, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and its Joint Venture partner, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited( NNPCL) towards achieving the feat.

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.
This commendation was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.
According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”
She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.
As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.
A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.
