Obolos Demand Justice After Destruction Of Property At Ibeno Community
Obolo community in Akwa Ibom State is demanding justice following a recent invasion and destruction of lives and property in the Iwuochang area of Ibeno.
In response to this devastation, the Obolo youths have called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the sponsors behind the attack.
During a joint meeting of the National Executive Council of Obolo Youth Coalition worldwide, Oro youth movement, Ijaw youth Council, and other youth leaders, the Obolo youths expressed their disappointment in the state government’s inaction after being alerted about the planned attack.
The statement, signed by the President General and Secretary General of Obolo Youths Coalition, and six other youth leaders, condemned the invasion and wanton destruction of property worth billions of naira in Ibeno.
They demanded the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the attack and warned against any future provocations.
The Tide’s source reports that in response to the situation, Governor Umo Eno visited the affected communities and victims in the hospital.
He reminded the people of Ibeno, Eket, and Esit Eket, who have been in conflict over the ownership of the stubbs creek forest reserves, of their communal ties and inter-marriages.
Governor Eno also warned the political gladiators and sponsors of the conflict, stating that the government has credible intelligence on their actions.
He vowed to call them out and penalise them if such incidents occur again.
The local government council chairmen were also advised to maintain law and order in their respective domains, with the threat of immediate removal if they fail to do so.
The Obolo community is determined to put an end to this problem and ensure the safety and protection of their domain.
