All Health Programmes Must Be Approved, RSG Tells NGOs
The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh has urged organisations and bodies to always get approval before conducting health programmes in communities.
In a statement on Monday, Dr. Oreh said the directive has become crucial to avert fear and anxiety created among rural folks over the outbreak of Cholera.
The Health Commissioner revealed that claims over the outbreak of Cholera in Soku in Akuku -Toru Local Government Area was fake and not verifiable.
Already, she stated that health officials had gone to the community and confirmed that there was no such incident or death from the disease.
She emphasised that such outreach activities must be conducted with approval from and in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health, and as such, no entity should be conducting outreaches outside the coordination of the Ministry.
Warning those planning to conduct health programmes without approval, the Commissioner reiterated that such activities if found to be carried out without the knowledge and clearance of the State Ministry of Health will be fully investigated and dealt with in order to ensure the protection of the lives of Rivers people.
She therefore urged the general public to remain calm and rest assured that the Rivers State Ministry of Health will continue to be a veritable source of public health information in the state.
Cholera, which is a water-borne infectious disease, is a notifiable disease warranting escalating reports from disease surveillance and notification officers at the community level,infectious diseases of this nature are to be reported, managed, and escalated by the Rivers State Ministry of Health.
