The Head of Department of Agriculture in the council, Alhaji Yusuf Muhammed, told newsmen in Zaki on Wednesday that the boreholes, constructed in 2009, had been allocated to 210 peasant farmers within the local government area.
He said the participating farmers were assisted with one unit of water pump to boost dry season farming in the area.
Muhammed said thousands of tonnes of rice, maize, vegetables and other horticultural crops planted by the farmers had been harvested in the last two years.
He added that the council had concluded plans to purchase additional 300 units of water pumps for distribution to 300 farmers in Katagum and Sakwa Districts of the council that had not benefited from the scheme.
