RVHA Committee On Flooding Presents Report
The Rivers State House of Assembly Adhoc Committee on Flood has presented its preliminary report on the devastating effect of flood in some communities in the State.
Presenting the report on the floor of the House on Monday, the lawmaker representing Akuku-Toru Constituency 2, Hon. Opuende Lolo Isaiah, said the committee categorised the report into three.
The stages, he said, are pre flood stage; interventions stage; and Post Flood Stage.
During debate on the report, the lawmakers in their various contributions supported the need for relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies to take urgent steps to alleviate the suffering of the people.
Commenting on the report, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, commended the Committee for their preliminary report, adding that from available information, the Cameroonian Authority may soon open the Ladgo Dam, which may inflict more pains on communities along the coast line.
He, therefore, urged the Committee, more particularly standing committees on Emergency Relief, Environment and Health, to liaise with appropriate Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to provide succour for the people.
It would be recalled that the adhoc committee had earlier met with council chairmen of the affected Local Government Areas and other stakeholders to ascertain their level of preparedness for the predicted flooding.
