Commissioner Lauds LG Boss On Development Strides
The Rivers State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Chisom Kenneth Gbali, has lauded the Chairman of Degema Local Government Council, Hon. Michael John Williams, for his administraton’s development strides in the local government.
He noted that the numerous projects of the council chairman also create employment opportunities for the teeming youths, and meet the developmental yearnings of the people of the local government.
The Commissioner made the commendation during an advocacy visit to the local government, where he sensitised and interacted with the youths, intimating them of the state government’s programmes to meaningfully engage and empower them to be both self-employed and employers of labour.
Gbali noted that the administration of the State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, was committed to the development and empowerment of Rivers youths, with a paradigm shift from unemployability to resourcefulness, through a process where the government involves the youths in the planning and execution of youth programmes.
He urged the youths to take advantage of the many ongoing government-facilitated skills and entrepreneurship trainings to better their lives, while also shunning all social vices, such as cybercrime, drug abuse, illegal refining, and homosexuality, which, he said, negate the laws of the land and the culture of the people.
The Commissioner disclosed that the programme, which is focused on three key areas: ICT, vocational training, and entrepreneurship, were designed with starter packs and business support funds.
He said it is also intended for both graduates and non-graduates, and for all gender, and thanked the immediate past administration for laying the foundation upon which the present administration is consolidating.
