‘We Have Bad Eggs In Police’
The Rivers State Police Commissioner, Mr Polycarp Nwoni, has admitted that there are some ‘bad eggs’ in the Police Force as it is applicable in the wider society.
Nwonyi, who stated this at a press conference organised at the instance of the Rivers Zero Crime Team in Port Harcourt, Wednesday, said such development will not deter the Force from its core mandate of crime fighting and restoration of peace.
According to him, the Police under his watch in Rivers State will not toy or pamper any unholy act from any one, including his officers.
“One of the policemen involved in crime some time ago is now in prison custody. If you see anyone in any form of crime, record them and bring it to me. I will not take any chances”, he said.
The Rivers Police boss, who was emphatic about a question that centred on the attitude of his men at various check points in the state, said he will not promise the end of bad police men at such areas, but with the support of the public, an end to the era was nigh.
To sustain the fight against crime, he hinted that plans are underway to take it to all secondary schools in the State.
He also revealed that the students will receive skills acquisition training so as to disuade them from crime.
“You must have a synergy with the police to enable us share the pain together. Zero crime will be a mantra in other States”, he said.
He, however, emphasised on the resilience of his team even in the face of prevailing challenges they are exposed to daily.
Meanwhile, he disclosed that his men have arrested 66 suspects, rescued 20 kidnap victims, recovered 109 ammunition, and neutralised 18 hoodlums.
The Coordinator of the group, Kate Ezeigbo, lauded everyone who contributed to the success of the event and promised to keep the flag flying.
