FCT Urges Headmasters To Obey Evironmental Rules
Headmasters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) who refuse to comply with environmental policy, rules and regulations of the territory may risk sack, the Secretary of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) Mr. Aliyu Dayabi, has said.
Mr. Bayabi issued the warning in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, on Thursday.
He said that UBEB is charged with the responsibility of mobilizing resources for the management of basic education in collaboration with stakeholders.
Dayabi explained that the maintenance of a healthy environment in schools was the responsibility of headmasters and the teachers, stressing that the society expected them to inculcate in their pupils hygienic behaviour.
He expressed the commitment of UBEB to providing the enabling environment for the planting of trees, grasses and flowers to safe guard the environment and the provision of more classrooms and fencing of schools, for meaningful learning and teaching.
According to him, emphasis would be placed on the provision of adequate toilets and potable water, noting that the two facilities were vital to the promotion of sanitation in schools and for the health of the pupils.
“When all these things are on ground, then you can say that you have a safe environment for children to learn”.
The UBEB Secretary said that the sanitation project would be implemented in all government primary and secondary schools.
Dayabi said that FCT administration has also deployed health and environmental officers to inspect the school environments to ensure a healthy atmosphere for learning.
