The Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, said the Federal Government has mapped out plans to construct functional vocational training centres in all the 36 states of the federation to generate mass employment for Nigerian youths.
Wike stated this after his official visit to a vocational institute in South Korea. Our correspondent reports that the Minister of State for education, who led the Nigerian delegation to South Korea visited the vocational institute where the youths were trained in mechanical and woodworks including designing as well as Child Care Centre that cater for the less priviledge children in the society.
To emulate Korea’s experience in employment generation for the youths, Wike said Nigeria would co-operate with South Korea to tackle unemployment through vocational trade.
According to him, “With this kind of training, you cannot talk about crime or unemployment, because at the end of the day when you finish with this training, you would be come self employed.
“That is what any nation is talking about and what we are trying to do at the Ministry of Education is to ensure that each of the Vocational institutes would have something to say, it has gotten departments and facilities”.
The Vice President of the Korean Vocational institute, Jang Hong expressed the Institute’s readiness to partner with Nigeria through exchange of ideas.
Our correspondent also reported that the Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Korea, Desmond Akanwor commended Nigeria for initiating policies that would drive the nation’s economy.
