Group Holds TB Sensitisation Campaign At Eneka
A Civil Society for the Eradication of Tuberculosis in Nigeria, TB Network, in collaboration with the Rivers State Ministry of Health, has organised a tuberculosis sensitisation campaign at Eneka in Obio Akpor Local Government Area.
Speaking during the programme, Deputy Coordinator of TB Network, Rivers State, Mrs Nancy Iheduru, said the campaign was part of the ongoing nationwide tuberculosis testing week.
Iheduru, who is also the Executive Director of Centre For Creative Development Strategies, said the programme was to enlighten the people on the need for regular tuberculosis testing and treatment.
She described tuberculosis as a deadly dieseas, stressing the need for people to go for regular testing and treatment as they are all Free.
Also speaking, Tuberculosis Buruli and leprosy supervisor in charge of Obio Akpor Local Government Area, Mrs Anyawa Beatrice, said More than 80 patients have been tested for tuberculosis since the inception of the week.
She said the programme is going on simultaneously across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
Beatrice explained that a number of persons who were positive with Tuberculosis are already undergoing treatment in government facilities in the area.
She also stressed the need for those with regular cough to go for testing and treatment.
Also speaking, TB Direct Observe Treatment Officer, Primary Health Centre, Eneka, who spoke under anonymity, said there is improvement in TB treatment, collection of samples and refilling of drugs at the Eneka health centre.
‘The programme is going well and there is improvement in TB treatment and collection of samples and drugs refilling is going well at Eneka health centre.
Speaking, Chairman, Community Development Committee (CDC), Eneka Clan, Hon Chima Wosu, commended the group for bringing the programme to Eneka Clan.
He said the committee would ensure that more attendance in subsequent programmes.
Over 50 youths and adults were tested during the programme.
