Judiciary Lauds Wike Over New Magistrate Building
The Rivers State Judiciary has given a thumbs-up to the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, for his administration’s commitment to advance the cause of administration of justice in the state, through the execution of various projects in the State Judiciary.
The State Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, stated this while speaking at the commissiong of an ultra-modern state Magistrate Court complex in Port Harcourt, named after the former Chief Judge of the state, Justice Iche Ndu, built by Governor Wike’s administration, Thursday.
Amadi described the detached six block two storey buildings as magnificent and the best judiciary building complex across the country, adding that the new complex would end the challenges associated with shortage of offices confronting the magistracy in the state judiciary.
According to him, the commissioned magisterial complex would stimulate quick and timely dispensation of justice as magistrates would no longer share offices again but concentrate on their duties .
“Because of the perenial lack of offices, the magistrates share office and run morning and afternoon shifts. This has led to delay in the speedy trial of cases before them.
“But, with this, they will have comfort and discharge their duties effectively”, he stated.
The number one judiciary officer in the state recalled that the project was delivered in 15 months, and it was a “most welcome development for the state judiciary”.
Amadi used the opportunity to express the gratitude of the judiciary staff to the state Governor and his administration for leaving an indelible mark on the judiciary and assured of the judicious use of the complex.
The State Chief Judge, however, charged the magistrates in the state judiciary service to reciprocate the gesture by being dedicated to their duties and carry out their functions effectively, adding that “to whom much is given, much is expected”.
Also speaking, the former State Chief Judge and Pro-Chancillor, Rivers State University (RSU), Justice Iche Ndu, thanked the State Governor for the honour done him and his colleagues by naming the newly built complex after them.
Highpoint of the event was unveiling of the complex by the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The ultra-modern building has a total of 24 court rooms and named after Justice Iche Ndu (rtd), Justice Simeon Amadi, Justice Suzette Eberechi Nyesom Wike, and late Justice Elizabeth Kinta Membere.
