Amusan’s Record-Breaking Run Gets World Attention
World Record run by Nigerian sprinter, Tobi Amusan, in the 2022 World Championships in Oregon has been included on a list of the best World Championships moments in athletics.
Amusan set a new World Record in the semifinals of the women’s 100m Hurdles with a time of 12.12 seconds. Later that evening, she won the final with a marginally wind-assisted 12.06s, proving her world record was no fluke.
Amusan became Nigeria’s first outdoor World champion and World Record holder in the process. Her performance in Oregon is now considered to be one of the best in World Championships history.
Other Oregon-related moments included are Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone breaking the 400m Hurdles World Record with a strong effort of 50.68 seconds.
Shaunae Miller-Uibo, a repeat Olympic 400m winner, eventually won her first world gold at her preferred distance.
Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela won her third consecutive global triple jump title, winning by more than half a metre with 15.47m.
The World Athletics body organised the greatest moments of the World Championships to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the World Athletics Championships.
It gives sports fans the chance to vote on the top 40 championship-related moments in history, with a chance to win a ticket to the Budapest World Championships in the process.
