Commissioner Inaugurates Committee On Revenue Generation
The Commissioner for Environment, Dr Nyema Weli, has inaugurated an eleven man
committee on revenue enhancement for the ministry.
Speaking at the ceremony in his office,
Dr Weli underscored the importance of revenue
generation for the Ministry to achieve maximum result in infrastructural
provision.
He charged the committee to work out a
justifiable revenue policy that matched current economic realities, stressing
the need for a comprehensive amendment to Environmental revenue law of the
state.
The commissioner who educated the committee
on how to quantify revenue in terms of need and effect on the environment, said
revenue generation had important impact in service delivery and the provision
of necessary logistics.
He stated that by the magnitude of work
performed by the ministry, it should generate more revenue for the state.
The commissioner urged the members of the
committee to come out with revenue formula that will be sustainable using
existing edicts and laws on environment.
In his acceptance speech on behalf of the
committee, the Chairman, Dr Cletus Ama thanked the commissioner for giving
members the opportunity to serve the state.
Dr Ama
who is the Director of Finance and Account in
n the ministry, assured the commissioner that the committee will not
disappoint.
The committee members were drawn from the
internally generated revenue department of the Skye Bank, accounts department
of the ministry, representative of the commissioner of finance in the state and
others.
