Naval Chief Sues For Safety On Waterways
The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ola Ibrahim, has stated that Nigeria needs to do more on safety in the maritime sector if the nation’s wealth is to be protected.
Vice Admiral Ola Ibrahim, stated this when the executive and he organising Committee of the Maritime Reporters Congress of Nigeria (MARCON) paid him a courtesy visit at the Western Zonal Command of the Nigeria Navy recently.
The visit which was part of preparations for the proposed MARCON Annual Conference in collaboration with relevant stakeholders in Nigeria’s maritime industry to hold from November 29 to 30, 2011 in Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom State capital, will have as its theme, “Preventing Terrorism in Nigeria’s Maritime Industry.
Receiving the MARCON delegation, the vice admiral, who was represented by the flag officer commanding, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogbo among other top naval officers in Western zonal command, commended MARCON for the initiative, promising to support the body towards ensuring a successful conference as it is timely.
He lamented what he described as lack of attention by government to security related issues in the country, stressing that the nation needed to intensify efforts towards securing and safeguarding the water ways.
