NCDMB Hails PETAN On Secretariat, Tasks Private Sector On Gas Dev
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Engr. Simbi Wabote, has commended the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) on the opening of its Secretariat, and tasked members of the association and the private sector to take firmer charge in the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas Initiative to quickly bridge the gaps presented by the energy transition in the oil and gas industry.
Wabote posed the challenge at the commissioning of the new PETAN Secretariat which he performed as Special Guest of Honour in Port Harcourt, recently.
In his address at the occasion, which had oil and gas industry players in attendance, Wabote commended PETAN’s high level of integrity and professionalism as well as its alliances with other African countries to export talents, support supply chain development, and provide other assistance in the quest to grow African Content in the oil and gas industry, as the number of oil and gas discoveries spread across the African continent.
“PETAN’s roles in creating employment opportunities, advocacy in the oil and gas industry, showcasing in-country capacities and capabilities, and promoting in-country value retention for the prosperity of our people and businesses are well recognised and commendable.
“The board is proud to identify with Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) under the visionary and dogged leadership of the Chairman, Mr. Nik Odinuwe, as we gather here to celebrate the achievement of one of the most successful and fast-growing professional associations in Nigeria and Africa at large. I sincerely commend you all for coming together to put-up this state-of-the-art secretariat complex here in Trans Amadi, the industrial hub of Rivers State”.
Wabote further stated that it was a fact that Nigerian Oil and Gas Service companies play very crucial roles in the provision of services for the sustenance and growth of the Nigerian oil and gas industry, adding that the board currently has about 9,000 service companies registered in their NOGIC-JQS offering diverse services.
“I am indeed very pleased with the outstanding initiatives of PETAN, PETAN, PETAN, which are yielding results, as well as the success stories of PETAN members in their diverse fields of operations, thereby contributing to our goal of achieving 70percent Nigerian Content in the oil and gas industry by the year 2027.
“The PETAN Seal of Quality introduced by the association to eliminate incompetent service providers who do not meet the quality requirements set out by PETAN is another good example of initiatives put in place by the association to bring it into prominence and global reckoning. It is my hope that the PETAN Seal of Quality will further enhance delivery of services in the oil and gas industry without compromising standards”, he charged.
He noted that building and patronage of local capacities and capabilities ultimately results in cost reduction, reliable supply chain, and sustainable business operations, the alternative of which has been found to be costlier, requiring layers of protection from resentful business environment caused by socio-economic tensions.
“Like the popular saying goes, ‘If you think education is expensive, try ignorance’. Similarly, if you think Local Content is expensive, try a hostile business environment’.
The ES was later conferred with the PETAN Distinguished Leadership Award for his outstanding Leadership in the Oil and Gas industry at the PETAN Awards Dinner, at the Presidential Hotel, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
