Rivers State University 2020/2021 academic session overall Best Graduating Student, Faculty of Management, Obe Sampson, who won the Vice-Chancellor’s prize has charged other graduating student to live by the principles they were taught by the university.
Sampson stated this during his appreciation message at RSU convocation arena, last Friday in Port Harcourt.
Obe recounted in November 2017, when the academic session started, the sufferings he had to go through due to lack of basic necessities to keep going in his studies, but despite all, he has always fought to remain focused, never allowed them to distract him.
“I remembered my sister would do all within her powers to send me N10,000 monthly, I sincerely appreciate you, my beloved Sister. That effort alone encouraged me to remain focused hardworking, and committed to my academic studies.
“I also remember the number of times was in the classroom reading at midnights and mosquitoes having their festival on me, the only thing I could do was to be clapping my hands trying to kill them but today the joy that I feel in me has taken all that pains and sufferings away.
“Fellow graduands, we are products of hard work, let us try to abide by the principles of what we have learnt from the school authorities as we go out there in search of employment remember that in striving for knowledge, great success in life is a product of hard work, dedication and commitment,” Obe added.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Rivers State University, Professor Nlerum Okogbule, has stated that universities must ensure they produce men and women worthy of certificates they parade in learning.
Okogbule said, RSU was doing a lot to ensure students improve in learning and character, thereby calling on other universities to emulate and ensure they do the same to have a saner society.
