FRSC Boss Tasks Special Marshals On Professionalism
The Acting Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dauda Biu, has urged officers of the Special Marshal to discharge their duties with diligence and professionalism to save lives on the roads.
Biu gave the advice during the 2022 Special Marshals Zonal Conference with the theme ‘Responsibility Of Special Marshals In The Face Of A New Administration In The Commission’, in Port Harcourt.
Represented by the Deputy Corps Marshal, Special Duties and External Relations, Susan Ajenge, Biu described the conference and itss theme as ‘prompt’, and stressed the need for the Marshals’ strict adherence to the fallout of the conference for a hitch free operations on duty.
Biu stated that the zone 6 Special Marshal conference which featured Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states, was aimed at sensitizing the Special Marshals on their duties to reduce the rate of crashes and save lives and properties.
According to him, Special Marshals are volunteers supporting the regular Marshals to keep the roads safe, stating that since its inception in 1989, the Marshals have increased in their strength and guaranteeing safer roads for the country.
Biu urged the marshals to always be on their proper regalia while on duty and work with team spirit to end traffic accidents in the country.
While urging the Marshals to support the present administration, Biu advised Marshals who are politicians and vying for positions against using the FRSC platform for the advancement of their political careers.
“The corps is a non-partisan organisation and will continue to be impartial and available to assist the public in the free flow of traffic always. Moreso, as the yuletide season is here, we call on the public to imbibe safe road culture, drive carefully and obey road rules and regulations to arrive at their destinations safely”, he urged.
Earlier, the Acting Commanding Officer, Zone RS6, Jonathan Owoade, explained that the Special Marshals were to, among other things, carry out traffic control and rescue operations as a team squad in the case of emergencies, monitor road users with the view to providing constructive feedback to the commission, as well as participate in research activities relevant to road safety management .
Owoade called on the Marshals to study the guidelines as reviewed by the commission with strict adherence for the avoidance of disciplinary action upon infringement.
On his part, the Zonal Commanding Officer, Special Marshals, Ntefan Omori, expressed the marshals’ positive cooperation with any administration of the commission, and to continue upholding the FRSC’s mandate .
Omori said “we are happy to be part of the road safety family. Our role is to compliment you and work as a team to help achieve all the goals of the commission”.
