Police, Military Arrest 30 Suspects In Brothel Raid
Toward ensuring a peaceful environment during and after the 2023 general elections across the entire Rivers State, a combined team of the police and the military have arrested 30 suspected cultists in a joint raid following an alleged cult-related clash within the Diobu axis in Port Harcourt, Rivers State .
The combined team of the State Police Command, drawn from the tactical Octopus Strike Force Unit, military personnel and Vigilance group, led the raid on Monday night in some brothels and ‘cultism lane’ along Azikiwe Street, Mile 2 Diobu, following cult clash between suspected Junior Vikings (JVC) and Deygbam cult groups, The Tide gathered.
The security personnel acted on credible and actionable intelligence to swoop on the hideouts of the fleeing suspected cultists.
The suspected cultists were said to have engaged themselves in a supremacy battle and territorial control around Ikoku flyover axis of Ikwerre road.
The rampaging hoodlums were said to have injured many passersby and robbed residents, a source disclosed.
Althogh, there were no casualties as at the time of filing this report, many persons were said to have sustained degrees of injuries during the supremacy battle by the two opposing cult groups.
The Tide reports that over twenty patrol vans and three buses used in conveying the arrested suspects were sighted at the scene.
It would be recalled that recently in a smilar operations ,a combined team of Nigeria Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) raided brothels along Azikiwe street, where fifty underaged girls forced into prostitution were rescued.
Attempts so far made to contact the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Grace Iringe-Koko, has not yielded any response, including text messages sent to her mobile phone.
