UNICAL Cautions Staff On Social Media
The University of Calabar has cautioned staff of the institution against sharing or discussing official matters concerning the institution on social media.
This is contained in a statement issued in Calabar by the Registrar of the institution, Mr Gabriel Egbe,
Egbe stated that the trend was becoming worrisome of late, hence it is important for staff to be aware of the consequences of doing so.
He also said leaking official information remains a gross misconduct as defined by the institution’s law.
“There is a ban on posting/sharing or discussion of university official matters on social media. This trend is becoming worrisome of late and we want staff to be aware of the consequences of doing so.
“No staff, irrespective of his/her office, is allowed to do official communication with external bodies on behalf of the university without the knowledge of the Vice Chancellor and/or the Registrar.
“The situation where staff now write letters on behalf of the university to external bodies without the knowledge of the Registrar is embarrassing and must not be allowed to continue.
“Also, the ban on sale of books and other academic materials outside the university bookshop is still in place. Staff are requested to show their usual understanding on this matter,” he said.
Egbe further said the university still maintains its cashless policy in all official transactions.
He added that all payments such as faculty and departmental dues, late registration, payments for transcript, company registration, library dues, backlog of fee payment and others must be made through the bank.
