Upata Monarch Seeks Post-Flood Assistance, Commends NGO …As Ahoada East Chair Lauds SWITCH-ON
As the massive flood water gradually recedes, the Eze Igbu Upata 111, King Felix Otuwarikpo, has called on governments, non-governmental organisations and good spirited individuals to support the Upata Kingdom post-flood management efforts.
The monarch while making the call, recently, during the visit of SWITCH-ON outreach team and SIM Media Volunteers to the palace, noted that his kingdom, comprising six communities, was massively impacted by the devastating flood.
He stressed that the people required rehabilitation following the damages incurred across the entire kingdom as well as the provision of medicare to the victims.
Otuwarikpo commended the gesture of SWITCH-ON and SIM Media Volunteers for their thoughtful donation of relief materials and food items to the Edeoha IDP camp.
He further prayed for the sponsor of SWITCH-ON and the entire team to accomplish more in their endeavours.
The Upata monarch particularly lauded the swift initiative of the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, for his prompt response to the needs of the victims.
Also speaking while receiving the relief materials on behalf of the IDP camp, the Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Council, Barrister Benjamin Eke, assured that the items would be fairly distributed to the flood victims, stressing that the items would provide the needed succour to the people.
He applauded SWITCH-ON and SIM Media Volunteers for coming to the aid of the victims in the camp, revealing that the Edeoha camp was one of the most populated camps set up by the council since the flood incidence.
He hinted that the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, had taken the lead in responding to the cries of the flood victims by releasing N1billion for relief materials across the IDP camps.
Earlier, the team leader of SWITCH-ON and SIM Media Volunteers, Mrs. Sotonye Toby Fulton, expressed joy for the warm reception by the monarch, and noted that the team was touched by the situation of the people at the IDPs, and had come to render a helping hand.
She said it was a great honour to be at the palace of the monarch, and prayed for more grace, wisdom and good health for the king to continue with his good works of leading his people.
At the IPD camp, she called on the camp managers to ensure that the items were properly distributed to the victims so as to cushion the effects of the flood, adding that the group shared from the pains of the victims.
Highlights of the event were the presentation of relief and food materials to the Edeoha IDP camp.
