2023 Census: Articulate Workable Strategies, Banigo Urges NPC

Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has urged the National Population Commission (NPC) to articulate workable strategies for the conduct of the 2023 census.
Banigo stated this during the Rivers State Stakeholders’ Summit on the 2023 Population and Housing Census at the NBA House in Port Harcourt, last Monday.
Represented by her Director of Administration, Mr. Ben Roberts, the deputy governor noted the importance of conducting accurate and credible census, which according to her, would help to facilitate adequate planning for all round development, stressing that the 2023 census must be gotten right.
The deputy governor said the Rivers State Government would provide the enabling environment and the resources to aid the exercise and ensure it succeeds.
She thanked the organisers for inviting critical stakeholder to the summit and making them agents for the sensitisation of the populace concerning the 2023 census.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, said the Nigerian census figure had been a topic for debate for a long time, noting that “some are of the opinion that we are not up to 200million while some are saying we are over 400million”.
He said the 2023 exercise provides us the opportunity to find a panacea to getting it right once and for all because it was very important for our national planning.
In his address, the Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, Dr. Ipalibo Harry, said the goal of census exercise was to ensure that the results were acceptable and credible which necessitated the need to engage with stakeholders to get feedback on the instruments and to enrich the process.
According to him, the commission remains committed to the conduct of a credible and acceptable census that would be transformational and meet international standards, adding that in the 2023 census everyone in Nigeria would be counted in the right way, at the right place and time, and for the benefit of all.
