Delta TUC Re-elects Incumbent Chairman
Delta State Chapter of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has re-elected the incumbent Chairman, Mr Martin Bolum, to lead the union for another three years.
Bolum was returned unopposed as the state chairman, at the fifth Triennial Delta State TUC Delegates’ Conference, a constitutional convention of the TUC held in Asaba, the state capital.
The TUC is one of the Nigeria’s major umbrella organisation of national unions, local labour councils and represents over three million workers.
The Tide’s source reports that by this election, Bolum and his executive will lead and direct the affairs of the union in the state until 2025.
Other members of his executive are Mr Emmanuel Yekovie, Vice Chairman; Omatsone Oyegbanren, Secretary; Kenneth Okoh, Assist Secretary; Abel Egbiniyokor, Treasurer; Jude Igboamaka, Financial Secretary; Sunny Obozua, Auditor; and Dumebi Eluaka, Public Relations Officer.
Bolum who received overwhelming support from delegates, was previously a major negotiator of Delta State pensions and minimum wages for workers with the State Government.
In his acceptance address, Bolum said together the team would share a commitment to building a world that would be fair for civil servants.
“We have to consider that economic policy should be working for workers, and not just for a few corporations in this country.
“I am honoured to be elected as TUC’s new Chairman and I’m looking forward to working with a dedicated team committed to advancing the interests of the nation’s workers and their families,” Bolum said.
“We are committed to building a Delta State that works for everyone.
“Among our key priorities will be to ensure workers are centered in the administration of this government and future governments.
“We all have paths which are woven with common threads—hard work, solidarity, vision and courage,” he said.
He added that the focus of the team was to break new grounds on everything from workers organising to collective bargaining, political action to labour rights.
“We are in every way, unified to help members have a better life,” he said.
Bolum lauded the TUC national and the state chapter for a hitch-free election that found him worthy to serve for a second term.
