New Campus EIA Report Ready Soon
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA), to the Rivers State Governor on the development of the new campus for the State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Mrs Vivien Braide, has said that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the site is 90 per cent completed and would be ready soon.
Mrs Braide stated this when members of the Project Advisory Committee (PAC), undertook a maiden visit to the new site of the institution at the Greater Port Harcourt area, Tuesday.
The Senior Special Assistant told the committee that the 21 days mandatory publication for possible objection on any part of the EIA report has been complied with, noting that the final document would soon be produced.
She expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done on the Ring road and access roads project undertaken by Zerock Nigeria Limited, pointing out that though their contract was originally slated for 18 months but adjustments in the design affected the progress of work.
Mrs Braide said the PAC members were on the site to see the extent of work and the area earmarked for the new campus of the university to enable them match it with the engineering design as well as as to afford them opportunity to interface with the contracting firm.
Earlier, the Area Manager of Zerock Nigeria Limited, Mr. Maroun Kassouf, said the project suffered initially because of several adjustments and modifications added to the original drawing, stressing that with the coming dry season, the project would be completed on schedule.
In another development, Mr. Femi Akintunde of Alphamead Facilities and Management Services Limited, who made a presentation to the PAC members, emphasised the need for them to consider maintainability philosophy in the execution of the proposed world class university.
Mr. Akintunde explained that long term maintenance strategic plan that would allow the structures to retain their beauty for years, should be put in place to justify the huge expenditure on the institution.
