… Intensifies War Against Oil Theft, Arrests Three Suspects
The marine and land patrol team of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Rivers State Command, has arrested three suspects with one large wooden boat and two vehicles laden with illegally refined petroleum products.
Parading the suspects at the Ogbogoro Exhibit Jetty in Rivers State, the State Commandant, Michael Ogar, said the Rivers State Command has impounded a large wooden boat laden with about 24,000 litres of locally/illegally refined petroleum products, Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK).
This is coming on the heels of a renewed vigour following the dissolution and reconstitution of the Antivandal Unit across the federation.
Ogar explained that the suspects loaded the illegally refined petroleum products in cellophane and concealed them in sack bags.
According to him, “the products were carefully arranged in the wooden boat such that a layman would assume it was a passenger boat.
However, based on sustained intelligence, he explained further, “the suspects, William Chen (29), male, and Emmanuel Uriah (27), male, were tactically double-crossed and arrested by our marine team along Isaka Creek, off the New Calabar River axis in Rivers State”.
The State Commandant revealed that the land Patrol team also arrested one Anayo Obasi (38) male, for illegal dealings in petroleum products.
The suspect was apprehended with a yellow and lemon coloured mini bus with registration number ABIA BND 82 ZM laden with about 1,500 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) concealed in cellophane.
Ogar added that another Toyota Camry Car with number plate LAGOS GN 76 LND laden with about 1,500 litres of illegally refined AGO was impounded at Abonnema Wharf by UTC Junction.
He issued a stern warning to those milking the economy of the nation through oil theft to relocate out of Rivers State, saying “the new Sheriff in town will not compromise nor leave any stone unturned.
“We are fully equipped and ready to fight the menace of oil theft, vandalism of oil pipelines and all acts of illegal dealings in petroleum products in Rivers State.
“The Command under my watch will not accept indiscipline, compromise, and connivance of officers with illegal oil dealers because any officer caught aiding and abetting illegal bunkerers would be rid of all his uniforms and accoutrements and treated like a criminal”, Ogar stated.
While affirming that the suspects will have their time in Court, the Rivers NSCDC boss also beckoned on the public to provide the Command with credible and actionable intelligence that would enhance the Command to clamp down on all oil thieves in the State.

UNIPORT Moves To Tackle Insecurity … Inducts Security Experts
The University of Port Harcourt, has taken a significant step towards addressing the issue of insecurity in Nigeria by producing security experts through its Institute of Niger Delta Studies (INDS), with the institute inducting its first graduating students into the Nigerian Institute For Industrial Security (NIIS), with the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General E E Emekah, delivering a quality lecture on the topic, “Promoting Blue Economy In The Niger Delta: The Place Of Security”.
In his lecture, Major General Emekah emphasised the importance of security in promoting the blue economy in the Niger Delta region.
He noted that the activities of the Joint Tasks Force (JTF) are geared towards maintaining peace on Nigerian waterways and promoting productivity, and also stressed the need for a non-kinetic approach to security operations, winning the hearts and minds of the communities, and collaborating with security personnel to fight insecurity.
The GOC charged the inductees to ensure that their study/training provides practical solutions to the pressing security challenges facing the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole.
He emphasised the significance of their studies in UNIPORT, given the prevailing security threat to lives and property, especially on Nigerian waterways.
The Acting Director of INDS, Dr. Chukwu-Okeah, expressed satisfaction that the occasion marks a new milestone in the history of the institute, noting that the Niger Delta has been besieged with environmental and security challenges, and it is time to rise up and build the region through the blue economy ideology.
The blue economy, he explained, emphasises the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and job creation while preserving the health of the ocean ecosystem.
He described the blue economy as the new oil well, with the potential to drive economic diversification, job creation, food security, and climate resilience in the region.
One of the inductees, Ayuba Tanimu noted that security is dynamic, and continuous learning and research have equipped them to serve their communities and Nigeria well.
He described the Nigerian Institute For Industrial Security (NIIS) as a body of security professionals that meets annually to craft security policies for the country.
The programme, which attracted prominent individuals from the academia, security, and other sectors had the 7th Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof Joseph Ajienka, as its chairman.
