LG Boss Commissions Upata Central Palace
Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Council, Hon. Benjamin Israel Eke, has commissioned Upata Kingdom Central Palace, Edeoha Community in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
While commissioning the edifice, Eke thanked the monarch and the people of Upata Kingdom for conceiving what he called such a milestone achievement, urging them to, among other things, continue to remain focuses and love themselves.
Speaking at the event, Rivers State House of Assembly Deputy Speaker, Rt. Edison Ogelenye Ehie, pledged to stand by the people of Upata Kingdom at all times.
The lawmaker, who expressed happiness over the project, donated the sum of N1.5million to the kingdom, saying the project “is the first of its kind in the entire Orashi region”.
Earlier in his welcome address, Eze Igbu Upata III said, “at my coronation on 16th September 2017, I made a commitment to His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Governor of Rivers State, and people of Upata Kingdom, that a central palace where all administrative and quasi-traditional activities will be carried out will be built within five years of my rulership. Today, that commitment has been fulfilled.”
He said the erection of the ‘magnificent building’ has not only institutionalized chieftaincy and traditions of the kingdom, but would serve as the official residence of any king that would rule the kingdom from that day onward.
Otuwarikpo also used he occasion to thank the people of Upata kingdom, Corporate Organizations, Professional bodies, and spirited individuals for donating generously during the foundation laying ceremony of the project, adding that an honours list has been displayed inside the palace.
The monarch reeled out some of his achievements on the throne within five years of his administration, which include permanent resolution of protracted land disputes among the people of Ikata Community, which facilitated the return of the inhabitants after four years of displacement.
He also legitimatimized Chieftaincy structure in Upata Kingdom created in 1998, comprising Ede, Akpana, Owu, Ugbokor, Ikega and Odhio, which forms the six sub clans of Upata Kingdom among other laudable achievements.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Sir Samuel J. Egbe, said the strategic role of traditional rulers in the localities attracted government attention from colonial period till date, noting that the occasion was a watershed in the history of Upata kingdom and the people of Ekpeye in general.
“What you are about witnessing here today is one of the countless enviable credentials of a visionary leader, Eze Felix Otuwarikpo, who has uncommon desire to sustain and consolidate on the ideals of our forefathers,” Egbe said.
Highlights if the occasion saw tokens of different types and cash donations being iven by different groups and individuals that graced the occasion.
In attendance were high class traditional rulers across Nigeria, emirs, politicians, captains of industry, student unions, corporate organizations, and cultural troops.
Recall that the Upata group has been in the fore front of breaking and setting records in Ekpeye Kingdom
The first Eze Ekpeye Logbo came from the Kingdom, and they are said to be the first to see the early whitemen, in addition to being the first to build a Central Palace.

Motor Spare Parts, Industrial Generators Dealers’ Union Swears Gets New Chairman in Port Harcourt
The Owhonda Dickson Motor Spare Parts and Industrial Generators Dealers’ Union operating in Ikoku Port Harcourt, Rivers state has sworn in Mr. Cyril Igbokwe, popularly known as Onyeoma Cy, as its new Chairman.
The brief swearing _in ceremony was held at the union office in Port Harcourt, last Wednesday
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Igbokwe expressed gratitude for the trust and confidence his members had shown in him, despite his perceived educational background compared to others. , “I feel very happy to be the chairman of this great union in this great market. I’m proud of my executives for demonstrating commitment and cooperation.” Notably, the executives raised over ?1 million for the inauguration ceremony within an hour.
The new Chairman promised to tackle key challenges facing the union, including security and indiscipline. He vowed to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, who he praised for excellent performance, and aimed to possibly do better.
Mr. Igbokwe emphasized maintaining a robust relationship with the host community and conducting his affairs within the ambit of the law.
In his remarks,the Electoral Committee Chairman’, Igwe Amobichukwu Eze Okorie, assured that the elections were conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner. Despite facing challenges such as non-compliance with guidelines and unfounded propaganda campaigns, no formal protest letters had been received.
Also speaking, the Women’s Leader, Lolo Nkechinyere Okolie, expressed faith in the new Chairman, citing his integrity and experience. She highlighted her role in ensuring women’s voices are counted in the union and vouched for the credibility of the election, noting that Mr. Igbokwe was the popular choice among members.
