PVC, Vote Buyers Guilty Of Same Offence, Fubara Tells Gokana People
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Gubernatorial Candidate in Rivers State, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, has warned eligible electorate in the state not to give any information about their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) to anyone.
Fubara issued the warning at a historic Grassroot Development Initiative’s sensitisation rally to mobilise registered voters on the significance of PVC collection and protection in Gokana Local Government Area.
The rally, which attracted the cream of the Gokana political elite, including former Secretary to the State Government, Chief Kenneth Kobani, former commissioner for finance and agriculture, Dr Fred Kpakol; former commissioner in the civil service commission, Chief PriscilliaVikue, among others, took place at Central State School, Mogho.
Fubara said that very soon, some persons would approach them with all sorts of empowerment packages in order to get their PVCs, but warned that under no circumstances should they compromise by giving political jobbers their PVCs or information on the PVCs.
“Some people will come and promise you empowerment. These are people who have not remembered you for many years. Don’t give your PVC information to them. Safeguard your PVC.
“The person that will give you money for your PVC commits the same offence as the person that will give you money for vote. Please, don’t fall for them for any reason”.
He thanked them for their support for GDI, assuring that the support would not go unrewarded.
Other stakeholders, who delivered solidarity speeches at the rally, praised the resilience and tenacity of members of the GDI and PDP supporters in the area.
The stakeholders assured GDI, and by extension PDP, that their support remained rock solid.
Describing the mammoth crowd at the rally, Chairman of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Amb Desmond Akawor, called it ‘Sea of human beings’ and ‘Gokana earthquake’.
Akawor said he decided to attend the Gokana rally in order to visit his friends, especially those in Ward 16.
He thanked GDI for what it was doing in educating the people of the state on PVC collection, just as he expressed gratitude to the people of Gokana for their massive turnout for the event.
Also speaking, the Chief of Staff, Government House, EngrEmeka Woke, advised media houses to be objective in their reportage and avoid sensationalism.
He said he came to confirm if GDI had no supporters in Gokana as was being speculated in the media but noted that with what he has seen, the body still commands enormous support in the area.
Woke thanked members of GDI in the area for believing in the present administration, which has brought development to the grassroots.
Highpoint of the event was gyration by the 17 wards in the local government area.
