Commission Tasks Labour On Productivity
The Rivers State Local Government Service Commission has challenged the labour unions at the local government councils to put in place programmes that will enhance the productivity of their members.
The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Chief Azubuike Nmerukini who said this while addressing the staff of Oyigbo as part of the tour of councils in the state said that time has come for labour leaders to ensure that their members are at their duty post.
He said, that it is not enough for labour leaders to agitate for increase in salaries and wages, while their members engage in frivolous activities.
“The workers sit back either playing drought or the midst of villagers farming telling non civil servants that their pay is ready when they do not go to work.
Chief Nmerukini used the occasion to call on principal officers in the various councils to maintain staff movement on weekly basis.
Meanwhile, Chief Nmerukini has urged principal staff of their unified local government service commission to draw up schedule of duties in their various departments.
Speaking during a visit to Okehi headquarters of Etche Local Government, Chief Nmerukini said that the directive has become necessary in view of the fact that many staff are complaining of lack of duty schedule.
He thanked the council chairman, Hon Reginald Ukoma for maintaining a cordial relationship with staff of the council and urged the workers to reciprocate the gesture by being dedicated to duty.
The tour later took the commission to Tai Local Government Area, where the chairman urged the directors of work to always mobilise their workers to maintain roads at the grassroots.
According to Chief Nmerukini this is the only way to ensure that rural populace fell the impact of local government councils.
