NSCDC Cautions Companies Against Unlicensed Security Guards
The Rivers State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Rivers State Command, Mr Michael Ogar, has charged the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN) in the State on the need to exercise caution when hiring private security guards.
Ogar gave the charge when he received the Executives of ALPSPN at the Commadant Headquarters in Port Harcourt during recently.
He noted that if caution was not taken, criminal-minded persons might disguise and get hired if not thoroughly scrutinized and profiled effectively.
According to him, the fight against crime and insecurity in the nation calls for conserted efforts of all Stakeholders, noting that those recruited as Private Security Guards (PSG) must be well scrutinized, with necessary background check done before deploying them to various duty locations.
“As you are aware, the NSCDC establishment Act 2003, as amended 2007, specifically mandated the NSCDC to Train, Monitor, Supervise and issue Licence of operation to registered Private Guard Companies in Nigeria.
“The Command under my watch will go after those illegal operators who are sabotaging the Security architecture of the State”, he said .
He also revealed that there is no room for unregistered PSG in the State, saying that the Command’s Task Force are effectively ready to clamp down on all unlicensed private security guard companies.
“On this note, I urge you to synergize with the NSCDC, Rivers State Command, in order to strengthen the Security architecture of the State.
“We must collaborate and work out modalities to effectively conduct thorough background check on the Security Guards before hiring them.
“It behooves you to also improve on the welfare package of the guards, provide necessary gadgets and uniforms to boost their morale as they provide security at Shopping Malls, Hospitals, Financial and Academic Institutions amongst others”, he said.
In his response, the Chairman of ALPSPN, Hon Davis Kennedy, lauded the Rivers State Commandant for the warmth reception andwhat he called “the eye-opening security tips”.
Kennedy assures that ASPLSPN, Rivers State Chapter, will collaborate with the Command by exposing illegal PGC operators and also provide the Command with credible intelligence and actionable information that would enhance the fight against crime in the State.
