Police Present N25m To Next Of Kin Of 45 Deceased Officers …Deny Imposition Of Curfew In Rivers

As part of the Inspector General of Police’s Family Welfare Insurance Scheme to alleviate the sufferings of the families of deceased officers, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, Friday Eboka, over the weekend, presented cheques of N25.7million only, to 49 families/next of kin of the deceased police officers, who died while in active service in the state.
A statement signed by the spokesperson of the command, DSP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the event took place at the Rivers Command’s Headquarters.
He added that the CP appreciated the IGP for improving the welfare of the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, and urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money.
“One of the benefiting families, Stephen Raphael Sam, who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries, and thanked the Inspector-General of Police for the welfare package, promising to use the money for the upliftment of the families left behind by their benefactor, “the statement stated.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command has said that it has not imposed curfew in any part of the state, insisting that such news making the rounds in the state were unfounded and untrue.
A statement signed by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Grace Iringe-Koko, urged members of the public to disregard such reports as such does not exist.
“The attention of Rivers State Police Command has been drawn to the rumour making the rounds in some electronic media, that the commissioner of police imposed a curfew in the state. To keep the record straight, the CP at no time, imposed curfew in any part of the state as he has no powers to do so, and besides, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever for a curfew in the state.
“The Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, has therefore, warned those peddling this rumour to desist forthwith as perpetrators will be made to face the wrath of the law.
“He further advised members of the public to report any one trying to create or take undue advantage of the rumour to the police authorities for necessary disciplinary action, please.”
