Church Gets Accolades For Supporting Bible Society
The Christ Army Church of Nigeria has been praised for its constant cooperation and support to the Bible Society of Nigeria.
The Church, which is the first indigenous Christian Church in Nigeria, established in 1816, was also commended for its commitment in terms of raising members for the society.
Chairman, Bible Society of Nigeria, Rivers/Bayelsa Area, Elder Omoni Ayo-Tamuno, disclosed this while addressing the church during the 2022 Bible Week celebration at the Christ Army Church of Nigeria, St Paul’s (St Garrick Braide) Cathedral Supreme Headquarters, Bakana in Degema Local Government Area, Rivers State.
Ayo-Tamuno stated that among other churches in the three Kalabari Local Government Areas – Asari Toru, Akuku-Toru and Degema – the Christ Army Church of Nigeria, Bakana, has the highest number ofspecial members.
The Chairman attributed this feat recorded to the passion of the Presiding Archbishop of the Church, Most Rev. Ibiba Siri, who on a yearly basis creates awareness for membership enrolment.
He declared that “If all Denominational Church Heads, in Rivers and Bayelsa States, and indeed, Nigeria put on even 50 per cent of the efforts by Most Rev. Siri’s commitment to the society, its aims and objectives will be achieved with little or no stress”.
Ayo-Tamuno further added that “members of the church and the ministers have demonstrated a high level of dedication to the society which exists to complement the efforts of the church in its evangelistic outreach with the written word of God”.
He also specifically lauded the Presiding Archbishop of the church for his support to the successful completion of the Kalabari Language Bible translation.
Responding, Most Rev. Siri assured that the church would continue to support and cooperate woth the society in season and out of season.
Siri announced that five members of the Cathedral, which include the Mother of the Church, Mrs Itokiniba I. S. Yellowe, aged 82 years, had completed the membership form to be Special Member, the highest category of membership in the Society.
He also assured that the Cathedral would increase its efforts to raise more Special Members on or before the next Bible Week Celebration.
Highlight of the celebration was presentation of New Testament Bible donated by BSN to the Church and the Sower Magazine.

Motor Spare Parts, Industrial Generators Dealers’ Union Swears Gets New Chairman in Port Harcourt
The Owhonda Dickson Motor Spare Parts and Industrial Generators Dealers’ Union operating in Ikoku Port Harcourt, Rivers state has sworn in Mr. Cyril Igbokwe, popularly known as Onyeoma Cy, as its new Chairman.
The brief swearing _in ceremony was held at the union office in Port Harcourt, last Wednesday
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Igbokwe expressed gratitude for the trust and confidence his members had shown in him, despite his perceived educational background compared to others. , “I feel very happy to be the chairman of this great union in this great market. I’m proud of my executives for demonstrating commitment and cooperation.” Notably, the executives raised over ?1 million for the inauguration ceremony within an hour.
The new Chairman promised to tackle key challenges facing the union, including security and indiscipline. He vowed to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, who he praised for excellent performance, and aimed to possibly do better.
Mr. Igbokwe emphasized maintaining a robust relationship with the host community and conducting his affairs within the ambit of the law.
In his remarks,the Electoral Committee Chairman’, Igwe Amobichukwu Eze Okorie, assured that the elections were conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner. Despite facing challenges such as non-compliance with guidelines and unfounded propaganda campaigns, no formal protest letters had been received.
Also speaking, the Women’s Leader, Lolo Nkechinyere Okolie, expressed faith in the new Chairman, citing his integrity and experience. She highlighted her role in ensuring women’s voices are counted in the union and vouched for the credibility of the election, noting that Mr. Igbokwe was the popular choice among members.
