Ndu Hails Wike Over Massive Support To RSU
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the 13th Governing Council of the Rivers State University (RSU), Nkpolu-Orowurukwo, Port Harcourt, Hon. Justice Iche Ndu (rtd) has expressed appreciation to the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, over the massive support in infrastructure development of the university.
Ndu made the appreciation to Wike, who is also the visitor of the university, during a retreat for council members, principal officers, former acting vice-chancellor, provost and deans as well as directors of institutes, centres and units, last Saturday, in Port Harcourt.
He stated that the ongoing infrastructure development of the university by the Rivers State Government, especially the construction and completion of various faculty buildings, new Senate building and the establishment of four new campuses at Etche, Emohua, Ahoada and Saakpenwa, was unprecedented in the history of the institution.
The pro-chancellor described Wike as a visionary leader and lover of education, stressing that the governor has not only transformed the education system of Rivers State but has also developed other sectors.
He used the forum to wish the governor success in his aspiration to contest for the position of president of the country, stating that Wike has the foresight and courage to improve the economy and address the security challenges facing the nation.
Ndu called on participants at the retreat to join the campaign against illegal oil refining, which he said has continued to claim the lives of many and destroy the environment.
In his keynote address, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Nlerum Okogbule highlighted some achievements of the 12th and 13th Council under the leadership of Iche Ndu, which he said includes, the establishment of the Registry Directorate System, construction of the College of Medical Sciences building, publication of the Five-Year Strategic Development Plan, ratification of promotion of professors and readers, employment of teaching and non-teaching staff, and ratification of the establishment of new faculties, among others.
The retreat featured lecture presentations on the topic “Relationship between the Council and Management during the Seven Years of Tenure of the Council” by Prof. Aaron Ojule; and “Governance in a World Class University: Focus on Boundary Conditions between Council and other subsystem” delivered by Prof. Donald Hamilton.
Highpoint of the retreat was the discussion segment handled by Dr Nnamdi Akani, and Barrister Albert Amadi, with engaging contributions from participants.
