Chime Inaugurates Shopping Mall
As part of efforts to boost the economy of the state, Gov. Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, has inaugurated a shopping mall in Enugu.
The governor, who was represented at the inauguration by his deputy, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, last Thursday called on the people of the state to patronise the mall – “Shoprite’’.
Chime said that the completion of the project was “a dream-come-true for the government and people of the state’’.
He said that the establishment of the mall would create a lot of prospects in the state’s economy, especially employment opportunities.
“For us today, this is a dream come true for our governor and I am happy that Enugu has got the biggest shopping mall in Nigeria. “Surely, it will boost the economy of the state.’’
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Anton Wagenaar, the General Manager of Shoprite, urged the government and people of the state to support the mall in its quest to contribute to the development of Enugu State.
He said that 76 per cent of what would be sold at the mall would be sourced locally, with the remaining 24 per cent imported.
“We are only importing 24 per cent of what we sell, 76 per cent of what we sell is procured locally. I have employed 250 people in the store, all from Enugu.
“The Store Manager, the Operations Manager is also from Enugu. That is our policy and that is the support we give back to Nigeria for supporting us.’’
Reports said that Shoprite is a South African Company. Enugu mall is the third and biggest of its malls in the Nigeria.
The company sells essential commodities such as beverages and detergents.
The side attraction at the inauguration of the mall was the distribution of its products to all those present for free.
