Ghana’s Men, Women Reach AAG Finals
Ghana celebrated a memorable day on Wednesday at the All Africa Games in Maputo as both their men’s and women’s teams reached their respective finals.
In the men’s event, Ghana beat defending Cameroon 1-0 thanks to Prince Baffoe’s 52nd-minute goal.
Ghana will meet South Africa in tomorrow’s final, shortly after their women take on Cameroon.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Black Princesses beat Algeria 3-0 in their semi-final.
Elizabeth Cudjoe grabbed a brace while captain Mercy Myles also netted.
“The game was tougher than the scoreline suggests,” Myles told Tidesports source. It wasn’t easy, but we fought very hard.”
Ghana are enjoying a fine tournament, having gone unbeaten in four matches ahead of tomorrow’s final at the Zimpeto National Stadium.
Today, Algeria will play off against the other losing semi-finalists, South Africa, for third place in the competition.
In the men’s event, Cameroon will play Senegal, who were beaten on penalties by South Africa on Tuesday, for third place.
The defending champions mounted late pressure against Ghana on Wednesday in the final fifteen minutes but could not find a way through.
Emane Yazid Atouba thought he had equalised on 74 minutes but his effort was ruled offside.
Meanwhile, Ghana coach James Appiah says he will not be taking the South Africans lightly on Saturday.
“South Africa are a good side. They play almost the same (style) as us,” Appiah said.
Ghana lost 1-0 to South Africa during the group stage of the competition, with the latter going on to top Group A.
